When it comes to the things we eat, the saying is true: you are what you eat.  While we may be eating pretty healthy in terms of meals, what about when we just want something light to snack on? What is something that is still good for your health?  Let’s take a closer look at the answer to these questions.

To begin when it comes to something we choose to snack on, it goes without saying that there are a variety of foods to choose from.  Depending on what type of food you want, or the desired result.  For example do you want something juicy, something crunchy, something with carbs to help in burning calories?  Something high in vitamins and minerals or something to give you an energy boost?

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away.  And that has some value in it.  Fruits like apples, oranges, and grapes hold a barrage of vitamins and help in energy according to Choice Public.  The skins of most fruits like apples, grapes, pears, and peaches can help in digestion, and the vitamins help in healthy bones, joints, and blood flow.  Also, fruits can help in the speeding up and maintenance of your metabolism.

While fruits are good for your health, you do not have to always or only choose from fruits.  There are many other snacks that are part of a balanced diet, and can be quite healthy as well.  Take for example pretzels, and rice cakes.  These are high in fiber, and provide the grain that we need in our diets.  Also many rice cakes come in a variety of flavors and usually contain no calories.  Pretzels also can be covered in yogurt and even some chocolates to add energy, help in digestion, and still be a healthy snack for the healthy eater.

What about if you need a more liquid diet?  There are many yogurts that are available the help in production of good bacteria that aid in stomach protection and digestion, and puddings and jello can be a good aid in health too.

All in all, it is not impossible to find healthy snacks, you just have to look a little harder, and you would be surprised at the wide array of foods available to snack on.  That goes for whatever you are in the mood for, and the results can be quite satisfying for all. Enjoy!

Help For An Oily Scalp – Quick Natural Remedies

Update 11/7/13: The best shampoo that I've used as of yet is the moisture control shampoo by Maple Holistics that is specifically for oily and itchiness. It is the most least harsh.

If you have a naturally oily scalp, it means your hair is greasy and even after you wash your hair, it could almost immediately start looking dull again. Often if your hair is exposed to heat it becomes even greasier. Still there are natural remedies that can give help to an oily scalp.

Rinsing with Lemon Juice:
Take the juice of two lemons and mix with a quart of good quality water (you can used distilled water if you have it). Rinse your hair and scalp with this mixture as thoroughly as possible.
If you don’t have any lemons at home, use vinegar instead – white vinegar is best and here you need two tablespoons to a cup of water. Only downside is it doesn’t have that nice lemony smell.
You can also use diluted tea as a rinse if you don’t have any vinegar or lemons handy.
These rinses clears any shampoo residue from the scalp and your hair will feel squeaky clean.

Use Your Own Shampoo:
This isn’t difficult as you will still need your regular shampoo as a base. Always choose a mild shampoo and one with as many natural ingredients as possible. Just add one teaspoon of lemon juice to a cup of your normal shampoo and also add a teaspoon of aloe vera gel and mix it all well together. After washing your hair with your own version of the shampoo, rinse thoroughly. Any leftover shampoo should be stored in the refrigerator and should last up to a week. Put on the Alcohol!
Mix two or three tablespoons of alcohol (whatever you have handy – vodka, brandy, etc.) to one cup of water and use it to clean your hair. Rinse as normal.

You should also buy a shampoo for oily hair. Shampoos with tea tree oil seem to work well. Make sure you massage your scalp very gently during the washing process. It’s also best to wash your hair every day and to rinse it really well. Some people recommend washing and rinsing twice to get the best effect.
